Definition: - The Human Development Index (HDI) is a statistical tool used to measure a country's overall achievement in its social and economic dimensions.
* Human development index was first mentioned in 1990 AD by UN economist Mehboob-ul-Haq(Pakistan).
* Human development index is the average of three indices -1- life expectancy index,
2 - education index and
3- domestic product index.
* The value of human development index is between 0 and 1.
* The concept of human development index was first introduced by Amartya Sen(India) in 1997 AD.
* Every year UNDP ranks countries based on the HDI report released in their annual report.
The latest report by UNDP was released on 14 September 2018 listing 189 countries and is based on data collected in 2017.
Five Highest Index Countries
1- Norwegian
2- Switzerland
3- Australia
4- Ireland
5- Germany
Central Republic Africa at 188th position and Negar at last 189th position in the list.
* India has been ranked 130 in the list, while India was ranked 131 in the index released in 2017 last year.
